VISUAL SEQUENTIAL NARRTIVE: Process 1

I have a few ideas for this project and I'm not really sure which route I want to take. I would love to be able to create something online and get it printed out and then paint or print make on top of it. My first time is like molding fruit, I'm working with fruit in my photography class right now so I've been thinking about it a lot. I think it would look cool to have intense images of really bright and colorful fruit and then have molding pieces crawling upon it. I also had the idea it photograph hands. Like young children's hands and then older people's hands so you can see the progression of age and time.  Here are some ideas and inspiration that I have found. I really haven't started on much yet.

  1. I like your idea with the fruit, I think the hand idea could be intriguing depending on how you decide to physically make it (like a book, animation, etc)

  2. Rebecca, the fruit images really caught my eye from the beginning. There's something about those bold, bright colors! Your other idea for hands really lends itself to the theme of the project (not that the fruit doesn't). I think both ideas are great; moving forward I think it'll really be about which one you're having more fun with. :) - Julia

  3. Hey Rebecca, I love this idea! Right now in my art history class we've been learning about how Roman portraiture was obsessed with verism, which focused more on naturalism of the human body, focusing mostly on how age affects human skin, as opposed to the ancient Greeks, who made everyone look eternally young. So maybe you could use those as inspiration! I'm very excited to see where this goes!

  4. I really love your concepts of aging like the molding fruit and the hands getting older, I'm still struggling with my idea but yours have given me some inspiration! I'm looking forward to seeing your concepts develop!

  5. Hi Rebecca! I agree with my classmates that the moldy fruit is really striking. I haven't seen much work that can make mold look intriguing in the way that you're suggesting. There are also some really striking patterns made by the spores in mold. I really look forward to watching this project develop!

  6. I really like both of your ideas. I think it would be really cool to consider the possibilities of combining the two. Is there some way you could connect the aging of fruit and the aging of humans? I think you could get some really interesting textures from both the aging fruit and the wrinkles in hands that could potentially go well together within a composition. Either way, I look forward to seeing what you create!

  7. Decay is a really, really interesting way to display a sequence. Your images are already doing a great job at evoking feeling- I’m excited to see how you play with this concept!

  8. I'm such a fan of the fruit idea and how the process of decay fully envelops change to all the five senses. I think you could have lots of variability and fun with the differences of textures, colors and shapes involved with the different kinds of fruits. I also like your idea of physically engaging with the piece in ways, transforming it not only digitally, but with your hands, too.
